WASHINGTON, DC - As the momentum keeps building for comprehensive immigration reform, the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) is excited to announce its involvement in the "Reform Immigration For America" campaign. This broad-based national campaign kicks off its effort today to fix America's broken immigration system through a comprehensive legislative approach.
"America's immigration system is broken, outdated and badly in need of repairs," said Charles H. Kuck, President of AILA. "The American people, citizens and immigrants alike, deserve a system that works and better reflects the values and traditions that make America the land of liberty and opportunity. As part of this national coalition, AILA will work to build support for comprehensive immigration reform this year."
The campaign connects people from communities across the country including leaders from faith communities, small business owners, unions and labor advocates, and community-based civil rights, human rights and immigrant-serving groups who are ready to work together towards achieving the 279 votes needed to win just and humane comprehensive immigration reform legislation: 218 votes in the House of Representatives, 60 votes in the Senate and one signature from the President.
Added Kuck, "Our nation's immigration system continues to worsen. We call
on President Obama to show leadership and the Congress to stand up for what
is right, important and just, and to enact comprehensive immigration reform
this year Fixing our broken immigration system is a critical ingredient in fixing
our economy. It won't solve all of the problems, but it will help fix our economy
by strengthening our labor markets, increasing tax revenues, and making sure
every one is playing by the rules."
